Kay on House Passage of Cap-And-Trade

News from Senate office: Kay Bailey Hutchison strongly opposed to House's passage of Cap-and-Trade bill.

Kay Bailey Hutchison: "In just a few short months, President Obama, Speaker Pelosi, and the Congressional Democrats have passed a stimulus bill that has only stimulated the federal deficit, and followed that with the largest budget proposal in our history. Our national debt is ballooning out of control, yet the President is now fighting for a trillion dollar government takeover of health care and a cap-and-trade energy tax that could cost the American businesses and consumers trillions more. I am deeply disappointed by the House of Representatives’ passage of the Obama-Pelosi cap-and-trade bill and will fight hard to defeat it in the Senate.  If allowed to become law, this wrong-headed legislation will deal a devastating blow to the American economy, drive energy prices off the charts, put American businesses in a competitive disadvantage and drive our unemployment rates even higher.  President Obama’s cap-and-trade legislation disproportionately attacks energy-producing states like Texas, devastating Texas’ energy industry and the hundreds of thousands of jobs that depend on it.”

So, we are looking to you, Senator, to do something about it. What is your plan?

I am so sad that the cap-trade passed in the house... Ms. Hutchison please stand firm! May God be with you in the fight!

You must covince all our so-called representatives in DC that this bill is destructive to all Americans. If any senate repulicans vote for this they will be thrown out of office.

I think I'm moving to Texas.  Texans are SO lucky to have your sensible leadership.  I only wished our Kay in NC had half your leadership abilities! Thank you for being a strong leader & role model for our country.

I just finished a paralegal course and in the course I learned, "If you can't argue the law, argue the facts, if you can't argue the facts argue the law".  Regarding the "cap and trade bill",this is a time to argue the facts.  This bill would bind only the United States, not other nations, many, of which, like China, are "polluting" at a record pace.  The direct costs would be an average of $829.00 per year for a household of four, totaling $20,000.00 between 2012 and 2035.  "Don't Americans pay high enough utility bills already?"  The average cost to that family unit of four would be $2,979.00 annually from 2012 to 2035.  The bill would hurt the poorest of our country.  There would be net job josses in the manufacturing sector of about 1.15 million between 2012 and 2035.  The overall gross domestic losses would average $393 billion per year from 2012 to 2035, and the cumulative loss in gross domestic product would be $9.4 trillion by 2035.  The national debt for a family of four would increase by $115,000 by 2035.

I have taught public school in Texas for 39 years.  My husband and I would like to retire in the next few years.  We have always been big supporters of yours.   If you vote for the Cap-and-Trade Bill,  we will no longer be able to support you.  We have and will be taxed enough!!!!!   Thank you for your continued service to Texas.
