On Anniversary Of Perry HPV Executive Order, Hutchison Calls For New Leadership That Puts Texas First

DALLAS, TX – Today, Kay Bailey Hutchison addressed the Dallas County Republican Women’s monthly meeting on the anniversary of Rick Perry’s executive order mandating that all sixth-grade girls receive the HPV vaccination. Hutchison criticized Rick Perry’s remarks in Friday’s debate that he didn’t think the executive order was a mistake and called for new leadership in Austin that will put Texans first.

“Three years ago today, Rick Perry ordered all sixth-grade girls in Texas to get the HPV vaccine shot. This mandate was driven by lobbyists and special interests in Austin. It was no coincidence that a former Perry Chief-of-Staff was a lobbyist for the company that manufactured the vaccine,” said Hutchison.

The executive order mandate for HPV vaccinations was driven by lobbyists. Republicans in the Legislature stopped the order. But the moratorium runs out in 2011 and at the last debate, Perry stood by his plan to mandate HPV vaccinations on sixth-grade girls.

“Thankfully, Republicans in the Legislature stood up and passed a bill stopping the order. But the moratorium runs out in 2011 and at the last debate, Governor Perry said his HPV mandate wasn't a mistake,” said Hutchison. “The only way to ensure that parental rights are not trampled on to help out a lobbyist friend, is to elect someone who will put Texans first.“

Hutchison has proposed a plan to clean up the cronyism and backroom lobbyist deals that resulted in plans to mandate HPV vaccinations and confiscate nearly 600,000 acres of private property for toll roads.

“When I am governor, I will clean up the pay for play revolving door politics that have resulted in executive orders mandating HPV vaccinations and 600,000 acre land grabs. It is time for new leadership in Austin that always puts Texans first,” concluded Hutchison.
